Last week Cereplast, Inc. chose a logo submitted by design student Laura Howard to be the official mark of their new brand of bioplastics. Cereplast held a contest for their new logo, and over 1500 submissions were entered.
I won’t comment on the ethics of design competitions, but the other finalists in the competition were seasoned professional designers, so having a student’s design selected should be encouraging for any of you beginning freelancers out there. The quality of your work, not how well you are known for it, is always the most important aspect to being successful as a designer.
Howard attends the University of Louisville (which happens to be my alma mater) and won $25,000 for her design. Very impressive!
